Hi…this recipe looks just like what I need. I need to make it ahead of time though. Will it freeze well? Perhaps I can freeze it before baking? OR Can i premake it and then heat it up again? i’m trying to make enough for 100. How many servings in 1 recipe? Thank you for your great post.
My recipe is a little different. Before adding the pie filling we drain a can of crush pineapple into a sauce pan and add the butter to it. Heat on low until the butter is melted. After the pie filling we spread out the pineapple evenly, add cake mix; then spoon all the juice/butter mixture over the cake mix. We had the problem that Jess had sometimes so we figured we needed to add more moisture to the cake mix and this worked out great.

I am so disappointed! I followed the directions to a t, let it cook for an hour, and the cake mix didn’t cook in the middle, the browns Sugar and oats didn’t melt and mix on top……I don’t know what I did wrong! I would cook it a bit longer if you think it’s under-done… but also, this will be a bit loose. If you think it’s cooked enough let it cool a bit. It’s more like a cobbler, less like a cake! I bet it tastes fantastic!
I was going to make a pineapple upside down cake but had no pineapple rings so made your apple pie dump cake ,using (3) packets of honey nut oats dry cereal mixed with brown sugar for the topping!
